In the UK, regulations require that the mother has a second blood test after six months. We’ll help to make sure this happens by sending you everything you’ll need to have the blood taken and returned to us for testing. We’ll send it out shortly after your baby is six months’ old.
We perform the same tests on this second blood sample as we do on the first. This is because any virus or infection with a long incubation period might not have been active when the first sample was taken and tested.
Even though it's rare to find any problems at this stage, it's still important to repeat the tests. It's only after these results that we’re allowed to take the final step - placing your baby's cord blood stem cells into long-term storage and sending you a certificate of storage
Again, we'll get in touch with the results of your second blood test within a week of receiving and testing the sample.
