Once the results of your second blood sample are confirmed as clear, we’re then allowed to place the private and public portions of the cord blood unit into long-term cryogenic storage. (This just means that it is kept safe at an extremely low temperature.)
Ensuring the safe storage of cord blood stem cells is very important and, as you’d expect, our storage facilities comply with the highest standards. They have Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency accreditation as a cord blood bank, and are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority.
Once everything is safely stored, we’ll send you a certificate of storage. We place one part of your baby’s cord blood unit in the private bank for 20 years – this is guaranteed for your family’s use only. The other part is placed in our public bank where it will be donated to treat anyone who is matched to it through a public transplantation registry.
