Parents' stories

MarthaJo Patterson

When Jo Patterson was pregnant with her second child, Martha, she knew all about the possibilities of stem cell banking – her partner, Brandon, was part of the team working on the launch of Virgin Health Bank!

Jo says: “When our son, Paddy, was born in 2004, we were unaware of the possibilities of stem cell banking – it hadn’t been mentioned by the healthcare professionals we dealt with throughout my pregnancy, and I hadn’t read anything about it. As a result, we didn’t bank Paddy’s cells and that’s something I regret now.

“Luckily though, Brandon was involved in the launch of Virgin Health Bank and so when I was pregnant with Martha, we knew more about the potential stem cells hold, and also about the ease of the collection process.

Jo and Martha“We decided early in my pregnancy that we wanted to bank cells second time around, and it wasn’t just the fact that Brandon was working on the launch which led us to choose Virgin Health Bank. We were both convinced that we ought to do what we could for other people, as well as our own family, and the dual banking option was the obvious choice.”
