Step Five - Certificate of storage
Once the results of your second blood sample are confirmed as clear, we're then allowed to place the cord blood unit into long-term cryogenic storage. (This just means that it is kept safe at an extremely low temperature.)
Ensuring the safe storage of cord blood stem cells is very important and, as you'd expect, our storage facilities comply with the highest standards. They have Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency accreditation as a cord blood bank, and are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority.
Once everything is safely stored, we'll send you a certificate of storage and arrange for the existence of the sample to be included on an international registry where it will be visible to clinicians who may request that you consider donating part of it should they have a patient who it may be suitable for.
